Short description:

The potential for increasing efficiency of ORC power systems by using zeotropic mixtures as working fluids is investigated in this project. Due to the temperature glide at evaporation and condensation the irreversibilities at phase change are reduced compared to pure fluids. Promising mixture components and concentrations for medium- and high-temperature heat sources are identified by process simulations. Subcritical as well as transcritical cycles are examined for components of the same and different class of substance. In addition a test rig for heat transfer measurements is set in operation to evaluate if the increase in efficiency overcompensate the reduction of heat transfer coefficients (respectively the increase in heat transfer surface).
